January through March
The first meeting of the new year for the
Bethel Township Historical Society, Inc., was on January 7,
2009 in the Meeting Room in Brandt. Lorna brought in
several possible ideas for the stationery for use by the
historical society. One was selected but we talked about
green on cream paper. She will bring a good copy to our
next meeting. Also, Lorna is to meet with the art
teachers at Bethel School to have the elementary students make
a design for the society's membership cards and the high
school students will work on a logo for the society. The
winner of each group will receive a $50.00 Saving Bond.
The Junior Bethel Township Historical Society seems to be
getting members into their club. It was talked about
applying for a grant.
On February 4, 2009, the Bethel Township
Historical Society had its meeting at the Meeting Room in
Brandt. Through the efforts of some members of the
organization the Bethel Township Historical Society is hoping
to have a Website of its own. As of now, it is being
determined exactly what the society wants to put on the site.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know. It
was brought up that membership dues are payable on February 1,
2009 at $12.00 per individual. Because of illness the
stationery could not be approved. As a money making
project, it was suggested that we sell playing cards with
photographs of historical pictures or items in Bethel
Township. Each playing card would have a different
picture and sponsors would pay different amounts to have their
name on the cards.
The meeting of March 4, 2009 was held in
the basement of the Methodist Church. The Meeting Room
was being used for paramedic training. The stationery
that Lorna brought in was unanimously approved by the members,
so now we have our own stationery for business purposes.
We are still working on the Website and deciding what will be
put on line. There was a dedication of a sign for
Phoneton in December 2008. It basically tells about the
old telephone building in Phoneton and the important part it
played during its existence. It was determined by the
Bethel trustees that the sign would be put on the property of
Wenricks which is outside the limits of Phoneton. There
was a person who had concern about the placement of this sign.
It was stated that it was like placing someone's tombstone on
the other side of the cemetery and not at the grave. It
was felt that the sign should be placed at the original site.
For those of you who can't attend our meetings, what is your
idea on the subject? Please let us know your feelings so
the information can be passed on, possibly at a later date.
Nothing was done about the playing card idea because the
member who suggested it was absent from the meeting. The
contest for membership cards and logo is to be judged by the
society on May 6.
For those who have not renewed your
membership with the Bethel Township Historical Society and
would like to continue with the quarterly newsletter, please
send $12.00 for each individual who wants to be a member.
You may mail your dues to Jeannine Friend, 6010 East US Route
40, Tipp City, Ohio 45371 or Lorna Furderer, 7080 Palmer Road,
New Carlisle, Ohio 45344. Otherwise,
this will be your last newsletter, if dues are not paid.
